Did you know that every time you eat or enjoy a delicious nutritious meal, you are also feeding trillions (yes trillions!) of good and bad bacteria in your gut? Don’t worry, it’s the good kind of bacteria that your body needs to live and thrive and we want to feed the good microorganisms so you can feel at your best!

Over the years, research has shown that these microbes that live inside our bodies affect our health, weight, and the way we over all feel day to day. And this is a big deal! That’s why gut health is so important and why we here at Wonder Drink preach the importance of prebiotics and being kind to your gut. Ever hear of the phrase, “Go with your gut” or “trust your gut”? That’s because the gut always knows what it wants. It wants the good stuff…nothing fake here!

When it comes to showing your gut some love and care, we suggest  starting with the basics and it start with what you put into your body. That means eating a wide variety of plant based foods that are high in fiber everyday. That’s right- get your fiber on!  Fiber is responsible for helping make food move efficiently through the body and helping prevent constipation and digestive diseases.  So keep your plate filled with:

  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Nuts
  • Seeds

Pack in the prebiotics.  Hellooooo, Wonder Drink!

These foods are beneficial because they fuel the probiotics in our gut. Prebiotic foods include:

  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Leeks
  • Beets
  • Cabbage
  • Asparagus
  • Beans
  • Whole wheat

Give your body the goods that it needs to stay healthy.

Don’t forget about fermented foods! Fermented foods get their specific flavor from lactic acid-producing microorganisms that can live in your hostile digestive tract and actually populate your gut!  While these foods may not necessarily be prebiotics or probiotics, they may help support a healthy digestive system. The first food that comes to mind is yogurt that has live and active cultures that is easy and accessible. Try some other fermented foods like:

  • Kombucha
  • Sauerkraut
  • Pickles (or pickled beets or carrots)

The better you treat your gut, the better it will be to you! Remember, a healthier gut means a healthier immune system function.

Some other tips to keep in mind for a happier and healthier you:

  • Keeping an eye on your sugar and sweetener intake
  • Reducing stress
  • Stay active
  • Get enough rest
  • Avoid smoking
